<br />The hard-hitting Marlin 444 big-bore rifle shoots a lighter bullet, faster, with a flatter trajectory and more energy (inside 200 yards) with less recoil than a 45-70 Govt. The 444 Marlin is perfect for medium-sized, thin-skinned game like whitetail deer all the way up to the big brutes like moose and elk. Marlin has long been the king of lever action rifles, and without a doubt the .444 Marlin has been one of the most popular heavy rounds of the last half century, which could mean that the briefly made Outfitter model with its abbreviated barrel is the compact king of the woods.
