This is a no reserve penny auction for a Springfield Model 1873 single shot rifle in .45-70. Serial number- 211997. After running a serial number lookup, we believe this rifle was manufactured in 1883. The bore in good shape for its age, with very minor pitting present. With some minor finish wear and a few dings, this rifle is beautiful piece of firearm history. Please review photos to see the exact condition and appreciate this amazing historic icon!
<br />The Springfield Model 1873 was the first standard-issue breech loaded rifle of the US Military. The Springfield Model 1873 was famously used at Custer&apos;s last stand by Custer&apos;s cavalry. Due in part to Custer&apos;s defeat at the Battle of the Little Bighorn, the trapdoor was eventually replaced as the standard-issue rifle and was quickly replaced by the more modern Springfield 1892 Krag–Jørgensen bolt action rifle.
